In the late 1800’s a famous and talented opera diva, Nellie Melba, a women ahead of her time, was concerned about the thickness and nutritional content of her bread. Ms. Melba sent famed Parisian Chef Auguste Escoffier back to the kitchen to prepare a thinly sliced piece of toasted bread for her and upon his return promptly named it “melba toast”. In 1941 melba toast was commercialized and Melba toast as we know it was born and Nellie Melba’s name was immortalized.
